Completed in 1999, the MGM Grand in Las Vegas is a hotel, casino, and resort located on the popular Las Vegas strip. Until the opening of The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in 1999, the MGM Grand was the largest hotel and resort complex in America and the world. This massive resort complex contains 6, 852 rooms, five outdoor pools, rivers, waterfalls that cover 7 acres, numerous shops and nightclubs, 16 restaurants, two food courts, and a large casino. With so much to offer, the MGM Grand is an ideal place to spend your time in Sin City.

The MGM offers ten different types of rooms and suites. These are:

- Grand Tower Deluxe Rooms: The standard room of the hotel. Claims to be among the largest.

- Bungalow Suites: Larger than the Grand Tower rooms, includes extended living room and a larger shower.

- Hollywood Suites: Includes extended living rooms, a dining table seating four, and a additional television.

- Glamor Suites: Extended living room with full sofa and chairs, bar like seating in dining room, and oversize Roman Spa.

- Marquee Suites: Dual master suites with king-sized bed, two private rooms with separate bathrooms, and a dining table seating six.

The following are rooms located on the East and West wings:

- West Wing: A smaller version of the Grand Tower Rooms.

- Celebrity Spa Suites: Whirlpool Spa, dining area, and extended living room area.

- Premier Suites: Italian Marble Master Bath with television, Roman Spa, and extended living room.

- Terrace Suites: Two-story suite, Jacuzzi, good view of the Strip, and 786 square ft. outdoor patio.

- The Signature Suite: Three separate bedrooms with king sized beds, each with separate bath, 24 hour butler service, private outdoor patios, and baths with marbled flooring and jacuzzi.

- SKYLOFT Penthouse Suites: Three separate bedrooms with king sized beds, each to with separate bath, 24 hour butler service, private outdoor patios, Jacuzzi, HDTV, and many other amenities included.

For dining in the MGM Grand, you can choose between a variety of restaurants, from fine dining to cafes. The MGM Grand has restaurants that can satisfy your taste. Fine dining restaurants include the Pearl Chinese Cuisine, Shibuya Japanese Cuisine, and the famous French restaurant L'Atelier de Jol Robuchon, amongst many more. The MGM Grand Buffet is among the largest buffet in Vegas, with lobsters, turkeys, and king crabs, all for just $20 a person. If you are a person who enjoys cafes, then the Rainforest Cafe is right for you. It recreates a tropical rainforest environment with lush vegetation, waterfalls, and many animals. It even includes a 10, 000-gallon double archway aquarium.

After a nice meal, you might want to enjoy the many entertainment MGM Grand has to offer. Visit the Lion Habitat to see six lions (most of the time they are sleeping). A see-through tunnel runs through the habitat for close-up viewing. You can enjoy the many shows that the resort offers, although the show depends on the time. If that is still not enough, the MGM Grand also offers you many nightclubs, includes Studio 54, a recreation of the famous New York Nightclub, also known as Studio 54. However the MGM's entertainment options are not only limited to indoors. On a sunny and warm day, enjoy yourselves in the pools, both indoor and outdoor.

For gaming, the MGM Grand offers thousands of slot machines that not only offers money prizes but also cars. There are poker tables, blackjack tables, craps, and many more. If you are a horse race or sports fan, the MGM is prepared for that as well. A huge lounge with a bar and televisions sets that monitors all angles of a race is there waiting for you. No matter what type of gamer you are, the MGM is ready for you to enjoy yourselves.

I have been to the MGM Grand eight times, from its completion in 1993 all the way to Christmas last year (2008), and I can tell you, I am not disappointed. After undergoing a major reconstruction in 2005, the MGM Grand is now better than before, with more shops and gaming options. As you enter, you are greeted by Leo the Lion, a large gold lion guarding the main entrance. Then you enter a majestic lobby, which separates into different passages, each leading you to a different location. Overall, I would rate this hotel four out of five. The only thing disappointing to me is the shops. You can find better stores at the Desert Passage or any other hotel. But if you are someone looking for a good time and cheap rooms, then the MGM Grand Las Vegas is right for you.
